Tusculum University values the wealth of knowledge gained through work, life and community experiences. Credit for prior learning is a process in which future and current students can apply for course credit based upon prior learning. Prior learning incudes:
All students requesting credit for prior learning are required to complete the application process below. Be prepared to include proof of all listed activities for which credit is being requested.

Admission and prior learning assessment process (new students)
After you are admitted and enrolled you may complete the following steps to request credit for prior learning.
Include the following items that verify completion of the activities for which you are requesting credit:
1. Diplomas
2. Transcripts
3. Certificates
4. Letters from instructors or employers
5. Other documentation as appropriate
The appropriate university staff and faculty will review your application for credit for prior learning and notify you as soon as the review is complete.

2. Complete the application and submit it below. Be prepared to provide transcripts, letters, certificates, etc. to verify proof of all listed activities for which you are requesting credit.

Application fee and cost per credit hour
The cost to apply for credit for prior learning and to receive a prior learning assessment for nonveterans is $200. In addition to the application fee, applicants are required to pay $100 per credit hour awarded. Veterans can apply and receive approved credits at no cost.
Credit limits
Undergraduate credit limit
Credit for prior learning will only satisfy at maximum 25% of any program.
Graduate credit limit
No more than 25% of any graduate program may be based on credit for prior learning. Individual programs may have lower credit for prior learning limits.
Each program may have different limits on the number of transfer or credit for prior learning credits allowed toward graduation requirements.
