Pre-Athletic Training

Explore the New Bachelor of Science in Sport Science Pre-Athletic Training at Tusculum University
Starting in the fall semester, Tusculum University proudly introduces a pioneering program designed for aspiring athletic trainers: the Bachelor of Science in Sport Science Pre-Athletic Training. This innovative program is crafted to address the increasing demand for skilled athletic training professionals, a field projected to grow significantly in the coming years.

Program Overview

Under the expert guidance of Dr. Suzanne Byrd, Chair of the Sport Science Department, students will embark on a comprehensive journey through 68 credit hours of professional preparation and theory. This rigorous curriculum includes key courses such as Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry, Athletic Training Evaluation, and Rehabilitation. Moreover, hands-on experience is a cornerstone of this program, with required internships and clinical classes that prepare students not just to advance in their education but to excel in their careers.

Career Outlook
According to the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, most athletic trainers find rewarding careers in colleges, universities, secondary schools, and various healthcare settings. With an anticipated 14% growth by 2032, the field promises a dynamic career path for graduates. The program not only sets the stage for a Master’s degree in Athletic Training but also prepares students to meet the certification and licensure requirements essential for this profession.

Alumni Success
Our program builds on the success of our current sport science degrees. Emily Venable, a soon-to-be graduate of Tusculum with a degree in sport science, has benefited from our robust course offerings, which have paved the way for her acceptance into Lee University’s master’s program in athletic training. Emily’s journey highlights the effectiveness of Tusculum’s hands-on and experiential learning approach, particularly in courses such as First Aid and CPR, which are crucial for a career in athletic training.
