The Upward Bound: Math & Science (UBMS) program is designed to strengthen the math and science skills of participating students. The goal of the program is to help students recognize and develop their potential to excel in math and science and to encourage them to pursue postsecondary degrees in math and science, and ultimately careers in the math and science profession.
UBMS students will participate in activities during the academic year and summer that will be designed to improve and expand their love and knowledge of math and science.
Students eligible for UBMS will be from Greene County (TN) schools and the Tennessee Online Public School. They must have an interest in and an ability to pursue a math or science education beyond high school. To qualify, they must be either a potential first-generation college student (neither parent has a bachelor’s degree) or meet financial eligibility under federal guidelines.
If a student is selected for UBMS there is no charge to the student or their family. Activities, classes, food and entertainment are included and paid for by grant funding. In return, students are asked to be faithful in their commitment to UBMS, exerting effort, energy and their time.
