ADA Services

Students must voluntarily disclose their disability and provide documentation signed by an appropriate professional to qualify services. Tusculum University makes available to qualified students with disabilities those reasonable accommodations or services as are necessary to provide such students with unrestricted access to the learning environment and the opportunity to demonstrate academic achievement. Reasonable accommodations are offered at no cost to the student and are approved on a case-by-case basis. Examples of possible accommodations include:

  • Extended time on tests
  • Testing in a quiet, low-distraction environment
  • Note taking services
  • Assistive technology training

  • Print material in an alternative format
  • Use of a basic four-function calculator
  • Permission to audio record lectures

How to Request ADA Accommodations

  1. Email adaservices@tusculum.edu to obtain the correct Request for Services form (academic accommodations, service animal, emotional support animal, meal plan exemption, temporary accommodations, etc.)
  2. Obtain documentation from a qualified professional as detailed in the Request for Services form.
  3. Submit the completed Request for Services Form and the documentation from the qualified professional to ADA Services at adaservices@tusculum.edu Note: Requests that are sent incomplete are not reviewable, and a decision about accommodations cannot be made.
  4. ADA Services will review requests in the order they are received and provide students with written notice about the status of their Request for Services via email to their Tusculum email account.

 

Temporary Accommodations

Tusculum University recognizes that individuals with temporary impairments due to injuries, surgery or short-term medical conditions (i.e. broken limbs, hand injuries, mobility limitations during recovery from surgery) may benefit from campus assistance, support services, and resources. Examples include:

  • Information on accessible routes and elevators on campus
  • Temporary parking
  • Potential classroom and testing assistances
  • A scribe for exams

  • Notetaking assistance
  • Audio recorder for lectures
  • Extended testing time
  • Computer for essay exams

Request

  • Email adaservices@tusculum.edu to obtain the Temporary Accommodations Request for Services form.
  • Submit the supporting medical condition documentation (written by a qualified medical professional on official letterhead and indicating the medical condition, expected duration of the limitation, and any recommendations for types of assistance needed) along with the completed Temporary Accommodations Request for Services form.
  • Submit completed forms and documentations to ADA Services at adaservices@tusculum.edu.
  • ADA Services will review requests in the order they are received and provide students with written notice about the status of their Request for Services via email to their Tusculum email account.

Duration

Temporary accommodations will set to expire based on the expected duration of the limitation documented by the qualified medical professional. ADA Services may request additional documentation to verify the need for continued services after the estimated duration of the condition has expired.
